Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is the school I wanted to get in because of how prestige it had in terms of the course I wanted to study. However so many things got to me as the days approached for me to begin my program because I had heard how my race was really minority in the school like I mean extreme minority. That made me a bit worried because I had been used to having more of my kind around me. Things got worse when I realize I was the only black person in my class.

This past summer I had the wonderful opportunity to intern at Educational Testing Service. I will preface my spiel on my experience by a quote from one of my all-time favorite books, The Alchemist, "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it".
I, along with 4 other RPI students, were privileged to be given the amazing opportunity of attending the 3rd annual Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Health Hackathon between the 19th & 21st October 2018.
I remember when coming to RPI was a dream that I thought was unattainable. I remember wishing that I would get accepted, wishing that I could make graduate school a reality for me. I knew that switching from psychology to engineering was probably a long shot but that I was worth the shot. And I was. I am. Here I am.

We're pleased to launch the new Rensselaer Black Graduate Student Association website. Look here (and to our social media!) for events, resources, and professional development opportunities.
